TILT

Late each year, Goolugatup Heathcote presents the TILT program, a major site-responsive commission from a WA artist.

An artist is invited to respond to Goolugatup’s complex history, landscape and culture by creating a new body of work. TILT provides local artists with an opportunity to bring a range of ideas and practice to new audiences, plus engage with a heritage site. Artists work in residence in our studios, and are provided access to our historical resources. TILT is an invitational exhibition.

Ten Year TILT Retrospective 2018

Created for the ten-year retrospective in 2018, the TILT documentary video has become a key anchor in understanding the program’s evolution, capturing the formative decade that established its site-responsive, research-led ethos. From our 2025 vantage point—on the cusp of the program’s twentieth anniversary—the video now functions not just as documentation but as a living reminder of the early artistic inquiries that continue to shape TILT’s trajectory. As the program expands into new conversations around decolonisation, environmental change and cultural renewal, the retrospective video offers a through-line, connecting the program’s origins with the ambitious, context-rich projects that define its second decade.

Goolugatup Heathcote is located on the shores of the Derbal Yerrigan, in the suburb of Applecross, just south of the centre of Boorloo Perth, WA. It is 10 minute drive from the CBD, the closest train station is Canning Bridge, and the closest bus route the 148.
