Michael Bullock is an artist based in Boorloo, Perth. He has has held solo exhibitions at venues throughout Australia and overseas, including Market Values at Five Walls Gallery, The Washing Away of Time at One Shanthiroad, Bangalore, The Trail of Time, Fremantle Arts Centre, Enlightenment Figures, Linden Centre for Contemporary Art, Duo, Kings ARI and Chuyển Thể at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces.

Group exhibitions and socially engaged projects, include Sutton Project Spaces, Melbourne, Spaced 2: Future Recall, Perth, a window until the rains come, HCM City, the Boryeoung International Stone Sculpture Symposium, Boryeoung, South Korea and The Fourth International Sculpture Symposium, An Giang, Vietnam.

His practice is manifested in the materials and languages of sculpture and their display, through processes and techniques of making, casting, assembling, and forming. In his practice, these sculptural approaches correlate and correspond with other ideas surrounding the found object, their use and retrieval through actions of finding, gathering, and handling.

This creative research focuses on the different values embedded in sculpture and objects, such as materiality and presence, culture and histories, memory and meaning, and asks how these objects may circulate through different media, geographies and epochs of ancient culture, colonialism, modernity to contemporaneity.

In 2021, Michael’s Doctoral project in creative research, Market Values was conferred by Monash University.
