Bryce Peter Olsen’s residency involves creating a conceptual foundation for a new body of work exploring the gulf between language and meaning through a visual metaphor of insect bodies with overly congruous forms, exposing human intentions behind secrets. Bryce will use the residency to experiment with timber, steel and textiles, focussing on transforming these materials in unusual and unexpected ways. The artist aims to investigate the relationship between linguistics and cognition and producing experimental written works from findings. Bryce was selected for the Goolugatup Emerging Artist Residency (GEAR) which is a fully subsided three-month residency on-site at Goolugatup Heathcote.

Bryce Olsen is an artist based in Boorloo who works in the field of sculpture. His works explore connections among bodies, dwelling, mythology and power as well as themes of queerness. In his practice familiar symbols are mutated and made deviant through layers of camp, darkness and glamour, breaking the repetition of old dogmas and rendering them in service of an alternate future. Olsen completed an Advanced Diploma of Visual Art at North Metropolitan TAFE in 2022. His works have been exhibited in PICA, LightWorks, North Metropolitan TAFE, Old Customs House and Mundaring Arts Centre.
