Goolugatup Sounds 12

6/4/2023

Goolugatup Sounds returns ahead of a long weekend and the dewy cool of djeran season, with another sunset show showcasing adventurous music on the banks of the derbarl yerrigan. Typically appearing only at their self-directed annual "holiday shows," improvised synth-and-strings trio ANAXIOS is a unique proposition on the local scene, folding in the influence of exploratory 20th-century "kosmische musik" alongside each player's distinctive sensibility. Ever surprising, always entrancing, the band features the talents of DIY/experimental mainstay David West (of Rat Columns, Liberation, Stairway, Total Control and many more); understated electronics+rhythm hot-shot Tim Loughman (Basic Mind, Long Body, Mental Powers) and classically-trained, wide-minded violinist Cohen Bourgault. Following on from Anaxios' instrumental reverie, we welcome the high-energy rhythms and genre-blending of afropop collective, TAB FAMILY & FRIENDS. A project founded by producer, DJ and percussionist Ayo Busari, TAB Family operates as a dynamic creative collaboration - not only performing as a live band, but also curating lineups, workshops and more, all driven by a love for African-diaspora culture. TAB Family's own sound has incorporated RnB, alt-pop and Afro-inspired dance genres to great local acclaim; their highly-anticipated second mixtape is on its way later this year. TAB Family's set at Goolugatup Sounds features special guest appearances from key collaborators, VERONIKKA and KUDA MIC.
