A Venn diagram is a new soloexhibition by Naarm(Melbourne)-based artist Katie Ryan. The exhibition exploresthe malleability of information, looking specifically at the aestheticqualities and strategic uses of diagrams, graphs and charts.
These investigations will berealised as multi-part ceramic sculptures embellished with graphite text andillustrations and suspended works made using semi-transparent meshtraditionally used for fly screens.
Diagrams present therelationship between a set of ideas as logical, contained and self-evidentthrough ‘empirical’ aesthetics. In this exhibition, the diagram is imbued withabsurd and poetic content, calling into question the authority of this mode.
