While only a few in the MSAC collective have publicly identified themselves, it is believed that there are around a dozen core-members, including two convicted of art forgery in the early 2000s. The collective met in 2014 at the Cardwell UFO Festival in Cardwell, Queensland, and share the belief that they are diasporic extraterrestrials living in human (or human-passing) form.

Swamped is the third exhibition featuring the largely Naarm (Melbourne)-based collective, and has been organised by AM Stuart. The exhibition will include paintings, sculptures and drawings from the MSAC archive, through which the members express their diasporic identity. It will also include the first publication on the group, HOME PLANET, written by art historian and curator Doreen Landis-Lee.

Stuart was introduced to the work of MSAC through Japanese art historian Miki Okatsuka, with whom she presented Works from the Okatsuka Collection at TCB Art Inc. in Naarm in 2023, which featured a number of forged paintings by MSAC members. In 2026, Stuart facilitated the exhibition of paintings by collective members L. Tan and Stella Barrett in the exhibition Archetypes: 30 years of 4A, curated by Amelia Winata at 4A gallery in Sydney.
