Beijing Realism

Han Bing, Hu Xiangqian, Li Xiaofei, Tami Xiang

11 February – 26 March

An old Chinese poem tells of how tree branches wanted to pierce the sky, but only managed to poke a few small holes. In Beijing Realism, Chinese artists are these branches, and they offer us glimpses into the way history plays itself out in everyday life, through the Cultural Revolution, the one child policy, economic reforms, and into the present.

This timely exhibition presents four significant Chinese and Chinese–Australian contemporary artists working in photography, video, and installation – Han Bing, Hu Xiangqian, Li Xiaofei, and Tami Xiang. Curated by Tami Xiang and Darren Jorgensen.

Part of the Perth Festival 2023.
