Sisa Studio makes hand-tufted artworks, small rugs and cushions in Boorloo / Perth, using 100% New Zealand wool yarn from the factory floor. Vinisha Mulani started Sisa Studio initially as a project to utilise some tonnes of excess wool yarn, which was a by-product of the carpet manufacturing process. With “Sisa” meaning “remainder” or “remnant” in Indonesian, Vinisha is inspired by the constraints of the colours and quantities of this “remainder” yarn available, and designs and tufts her pieces with these in mind. With experience in visual media, community arts and cultural development, Vinisha draws on the environments and motifs from her Indian and Indonesian cultural backgrounds.
